Materials Administration Search to Enhanced Search
Prior to this enhancement, the Materials Administration used SQL-based Traditional Search to return results. SQL has a longer processing time for large data sets and is less scalable as data grows over time.
With this enhancement, Enhanced Search is enabled as the default search setting in Materials Administration, which utilizes Enhanced Search to provide results based on relevance. It continues to support all filters in Materials Administration, and no administrator action is required.
A preference is available so administrators can switch to Traditional Search (SQL). To access this preference, navigate to Activate Enhanced Search on Material Administration Search section, click to turn off Enhanced Search.

How Does this Enhancement Benefit My Organization?
- Enhanced Search is a more performant, scalable, and results-driven way to power a search framework.
- Administrators utilizing the Materials Administration Search can search for training using Enhanced Search.
Considerations
- The default preference will be set to Enhanced Search. To access this preference: Menu > Admin > Preferences > Feature Activation Preferences > Scroll to “Activate Enhanced Search on Materials Administration Search.”
- For a select few customers with a DMS integration: Enhanced Search will not be enabled by default. This is because customers with this integration cannot access certain trainings when Enhanced Search is used. While these trainings cannot be actioned in Cornerstone today with Traditional Search enabled, we would like to hear back from these customers regarding access to these Materials.
- If your portal has a DMS Integration, the preference is available to enable it manually for your portal.
- The current search results are sorted alphabetically. However, the Enhanced Search results will be displayed by Relevance by default. When Enhanced Search is enabled, administrators will be able to sort by Title after a search is completed.
- Enhanced Search prioritizes learning objects localized to the language you currently have set up as the display language.
- In most cases, a newly created or updated learning object will be updated within Enhanced Search results within 15 minutes or less, with few exceptions.
- The learning object was included as a part of a large data ingestion, or a large bulk update was completed. In this case, the time for the update to be made available within search results may depend on the amount or the size of the change.
- The learning object was created or updated at the exact moment of an update to the data set. In this case, we'd expect the learning object to be available beyond the base 15-minute time frame.
- Enhanced Search will search for the most recent version of a Material. For most customers that use similar naming conventions between versions, search queries should still return relevant results. However, for a select few customers that completely edit titles between versions, please search for the most up-to-date version of the material and navigate to the older version.

Enhanced Search will search for the most recent or newest version of a material. However, partial matches should still return results for most customers who use similar naming conventions across versions. In extreme cases where a newer version of a material has a vastly different title, it will work best to search for the newest version and then navigate to the previous version of the material.
