Download Online Course Publication Files From Course Console

Prior to this enhancement, the administrators had to rely on support and engineering teams to request and retrieve course files.

With this enhancement, administrators can download uploaded course files from the Course Console page, such as AICC, SCORM, and xAPI files, without requesting support and engineering teams. The Course Console page now includes a download option for Online Courses and the Online Course Publication ID.

The Course Console page now has two additional fields in the Content section:

  • Publication ID
  • Download

The previously titled “Allow Download” field has been renamed to “Allow Download for Network Player.”

  • Allows access to the most up-to-date course files, e.g., when troubleshooting versioning and content modification issues.
  • Reduces time spent on file retrieval.

Considerations​

The following are excluded from having a download option in the Course Console:

  • Learning Objects that are not Online Class LO Type
  • Content Anytime Subscription Courses
  • Á La Carte (ALC) Subscription Courses
  • Online Content LO types (Percipio, Coursera, etc.)
  • LinkedIn Learning courses
  • Courses in Draft status
  • Historical Data Load (HDL) courses

The publication is the zip file uploaded to Content Uploader or Edge Import; the zip file might contain one or more Online Courses.

There is no current way to pull a report on the Publication ID. However, you can pull a report on the zip File Name of the courses; courses from the same publication will have the same zip File Name. Reporting 2.0 field: “Course Publication Title.”

This feature does not support email notifications. Admins can use the refresh option next to the download request or visit the page later.

No, the closest to the Bulk Download option is if the course was uploaded as part of a Publication with multiple courses inside, in which case the downloaded file will include all the courses from the same Publication.

The most up-to-date modified files will be downloaded.

There is no size limit; however, the processing time to prepare the download would be longer for larger courses. Please use the refresh option or return to the page to see the available download.

Course Publisher Update

Grants ability to update existing online training courses previously published via the course publisher. Administrators must also be granted a content license from the Manage Licenses page. This is an administrator permission.

With the Oct '17 release, after the Content Publisher is activated in the system, users with this permission are automatically granted the permission to modify online classes.

Course Publisher

Grants access to LCMS Course Publisher, which enables upload and publishing of SCORM and AICC compliant online courses, created either in the LCMS Course Builder, or from a third party course building tool. Administrators must also be granted a content license from the Manage Licenses page. This is an administrator permission.

After Content Publisher is activated in the system, users with this permission are automatically granted the permissions to upload and publish online classes via the Content Publisher, and also the permission to view the Upload History page.

Course Catalog - Update

Grants ability to manage and edit training items listed in the Course Catalog and also grants access to the Course Console, where training can also be managed and edited. This permission also grants access to the Popular Requests and Highest Rated widgets on the Learning Admin Console (in conjunction with the Learning Admin Console - View permission). This permission also allows administrators to reversion online courses via the Course Console page. This permission also allows administrators to access an Edit Training option for training items included as objectives in Development plans.

This permission can be constrained by OU, User's OU, Training Type, Training Item, Provider, ILT Provider, User's ILT Provider, User, User Self and Subordinates, and User's LO Availability. This is an administrator permission.

Note: Adding an OU constraint and a provider constraint to this permission results in an "AND" statement.

Course Catalog - View

Grants access to view the learning objects in the course catalog and enables administrators to view the Course Console and the Popular Requests and Highest Rated widgets on the Learning Admin Console (in conjunction with the Learning Admin Console - View permission). This permission can be constrained by OU, User's OU, Training Type, Training Item, Provider, ILT Provider, User's ILT Provider, and User's LO Availability. This is an administrator permission.

Adding an OU constraint and a provider constraint to this permission results in an "AND" statement.

Upon release, the administrators must grant the new Online Class - Download Files permission with the appropriate constraints to other roles.
