Compensation Feed - Step 2 - Create Mapping Template

After preparing sample data, create a data mapping template for each type of data that will be loaded via the data feed. A data mapping template is used to specify how the fields within the data file should be mapped to the fields within the Cornerstone OnDemand system, so a data mapping template must be created for each type of data that will be loaded.

A data mapping template can be created and saved while performing a compensation data load in the Data Load Wizard.

To create a data mapping template, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Admin > Tools > Core Functions > Data Load Wizard. Then, click the Load Data link.
  2. On the Get Started page, select the Compensation data type, and click Next.
  3. Select the type of compensation data for which you are creating a data mapping template, and click Next.
  4. On the Upload page, click the Browse button, and select the sample data file that corresponds with the type of data that was selected on the Get Started page. Then, click the Upload button.

  1. In the Upload File pop-up, the following options are available, depending on the type of file that was uploaded:
    • For Excel files, the following options are available:
      1. Select Worksheet (Excel files only) - Only one worksheet can be uploaded at a time, so if the Excel file has multiple worksheets, you must select the worksheet that you are uploading.
      2. Select Template - In this field, select the Standard/Default option.
      3. My File has titles/headers - Because data headers were included in the sample data file that was uploaded, this option must be selected.
    • For Tab, Comma, or Pipe separated files, the following options are available:
      1. Select Delimiter (Tab, Comma, or Pipe Separated files only) - Select what delimiter (e.g., tab, comma, pipe) is used to separate records within the file. This enables the system to properly extract the data from the file. The delimiter in the uploaded file should be the same delimiter that will be used in data feed files.
      2. Select Template - In this field, select the Standard/Default option.
      3. My File has titles/headers - Because data headers were included in the sample data file that was uploaded, this option must be selected.
  2. After selecting the appropriate options, click Continue. The file is uploaded and listed on the Upload page. Click Next.
  3. On the Review page, match the data fields from the uploaded file to the appropriate data elements within the system. The wizard automatically reads the headers from the uploaded file and matches some of the data fields to the appropriate system fields. Drag and drop the data fields as necessary to match all fields from the data to the appropriate system fields.

  1. Once the fields are all matched, click the Save Template button to save the field mappings as a data mapping template. Save the template with a descriptive name because this template will be selected when configuring the compensation data feed.

  1. Continue through the Data Load Wizard to load the sample data file to ensure that the type of data in the sample data file is correct and does not contain any system or format errors.

A data mapping template must be created for each type of data that will be loaded via the data feed.

After creating a data mapping template for each type of data that will be loaded, the data feed must be configured. See Compensation Feed - Step 3 - Configure Data Feed.
