Certifications enable clients to create and manage internal and external certifications. Depending on the industry, applicable terms might also include compliance, designations, licenses, permits, and accreditations. The unique aspect of certifications, which is not accounted for in curricula, is that once the certification becomes valid based on a series of training items, renewal requirements may be necessary to maintain it.

The tool incorporates the following concepts:
- Certification Family is a group of certifications, such as a CPA.
- Certification Category is another way to categorize certifications, such as financial certifications or medical certifications.
- Certification is a particular instance of a certification, such as a CPA for California.
- Renewal Period is the period during which a certification must be renewed after receiving initial certification. Renewal periods may be required to maintain certification.
