Learning - Accessibility Enhancements

The following accessibility enhancements are included with the November ’22 Release:

  • Learner Home: Carousels are updated so that the controls do not cover content on the screen and carousel content is more easily viewed when zoomed.
  • Transcripts: A label for "Type" is added to each object on the transcript so that images are not relied upon, and screen readers can more accurately convey the training type to users.
  • Connect Topics: Alt text can be added to attachments and links so they will be more descriptive for screen readers. This functionality is targeted for 2023 Q1.

Learner Home

Previously, to navigate forward and backward within a carousel, the forward and back arrows appeared within the training tile. This would sometimes cover content and the screen.

With this enhancement, the forward and back arrows are moved to the upper-right corner of the carousel. This ensures the arrows do not cover content on the training tiles. In addition, the pagination indicator is moved from the upper-right corner of the carousel to centered below the carousel. Lastly, the carousel content is now more easily viewed when zoomed, ensuring content is not inappropriately cropped or truncated.

Transcript

Prior to this enhancement, learning objects had an icon to indicate the training type, but there was no text or key to specify the training type. A tooltip was displayed when hovering over the image, but this was not displayed or indicated on keyboard focus.

With this enhancement, a new Training Type label is added to each training item on the transcript so that images are not relied upon, and screen readers can more accurately convey the training type to users.

Connect Topics

With this enhancement, users can now provide additional information for links or attachments within Connect posts and post replies. This provides content for screen readers to convey descriptive information about the link or attachment.

This functionality is targeted for 2023 Q1.
